EigenLayer has launched an innovative new protocol functionality! Today, AVS can run on layer 2s and the Ethereum mainnet. The new feature, launched Thursday, aims to scale verifiable infrastructure while minimizing trade-offs between security and scalability. This latest development follows EigenLayer’s recent efforts to supplant standard block execution with ZK-proofs, a concept they first described back on July 10. It will enter production mainnet environments in the third quarter of 2025.

Launch on Base Sepolia

The new feature, currently available on Base Sepolia, will be rolled out on more blockchains. EigenLayer is hard at work to support additional chains in the near future. Our implementation leverages zero-knowledge (ZK) fraud proofs, integrated into an optimistic rollup architecture. Together, these two elements increase the security and efficiency of the entire system.

"Until now, AVS had to choose between leveraging Ethereum’s security or scaling to faster, cheaper environments. With Multi-Chain Verification, they don’t have to make a choice." - Sreeram Kannan

Scaling Verifiable Infrastructure

EigenLayer’s restaking feature is what allows EigenCloud to achieve its mission of scaling verifiable infrastructure across many diverse blockchain environments. EigenLayer enables AVS to function on layer 2s, addressing the constraints that led AVS to have MVAS choose between Ethereum’s high security and the speedier, cheaper layer 2 ecosystems. Now, AVS gets the security of Ethereum combined with benefits from layer 2 solutions. This news is sure to go a long way in improving the scalability and flexibility of blockchain applications, creating waves in the industry.

EigenLayer’s co-founder Kannan explained to Cointelegraph that EigenLayer is rolling out the feature on Base Sepolia. Kannan told The Block another blockchain launch would be on EigenLayer’s roadmap soon. The team is already hard at work on supporting additional chains, too. Kannan further noted that EigenLayer intends to deploy the feature into mainnet environments by Q3 2025.

Advancements in Decentralization

In other news, Build on Bitcoin recently released a major technical upgrade. This development now puts them one step closer to realizing full decentralization on the L2Beat explainer platform. These innovations are the result of the blockchain community’s dedicated and persistent work. They are dedicated to making decentralization, scalability and security better by working on multiple layers and protocols.
