Ethereum is at a very critical juncture, as it continues to struggle with the scaling issues that pose systemic risks to its long-term existence. Feist, an unapologetic activist of the Ethereum community, is an advocate for drastic action. His intention is to increase the network’s capacity and ensure it remains competitive. In a recent Ethereum Magicians forum post, Feist argued this very convincingly. He stressed that for Ethereum to stay ahead in the race, it needs to significantly increase its throughput capabilities.

Feist anticipates being able to scale Ethereum up to 1,000x in the future. He argues that dramatic action is needed if Ethereum is to achieve relevance in the long term.

Scaling Ethereum is important to its longterm relevance and keeping the network under control. The Ethereum community is going to have an extremely difficult conversation about how they plan on scaling while maintaining decentralization and security. With layer-2 networks and alternative blockchains still growing in popularity, Ethereum is losing ground. Ethereum’s competitors, meanwhile, have been mounting increasing pressure in order to unseat Ethereum’s crown as the preeminent smart contract platform.

Feist proposed EIP 7938. This proposal, to be sure, admits Feist, is “unconventional,” and it is paired with an aggressive, but still achievable, roadmap. As such, EIP 7938 will be the subject of some heated discussions among developers and stakeholders.

Ethereum’s fundamental beliefs are deeply rooted in principles like censorship resistance and verifiability. Despite his reservations, Feist believes the Ethereum network can accommodate enough scale without abandoning its foundational beliefs.
