FIFA, you have got to be kidding! The governing body will shift its NFT platform FIFA Collect from the Algorand blockchain to the inaugural FIFA Blockchain. The announcement was made on April 30 through a FIFA Collect migration FAQ, available at https://collect.fifa.com/migration-faq.
The City’s migration is now planned for on or after May 20, 2025. FIFA will let NFT holders know when the specific date is set. This decision marks a huge turnaround for FIFA on implementing its NFTs.
The platform will be taken down for about 12 hours on the day we complete the final migration. We require this downtime to ensure a smooth transition of all NFT-related data and features. That transition will bring all of that activity into the new FIFA Blockchain. NPS users must make advance plans to reduce any potential disruption during this time.
FIFA’s official NFT collection, which is currently being hosted on the Algorand blockchain. The migration to the new FIFA Blockchain aims to enhance the platform's capabilities and user experience, though specific details about the new blockchain's features have not yet been disclosed.
Their decision to migrate was shared in the form of an extensive FAQ-style document. This FAQ answers some of those questions and helps to orient data users to what will be new and different. We invite all NFT holders to read through our FAQ to get a better sense of what migration entails and what it means.
